1 Guth, 8 Nights, 36 Bloggers

posted Friday, 15 December 2006

As a general rule, I'm not into memes.  But also as a general rule, I'm into supporting my friends.  So when Amy came to me and said, "I want to be more active in the Jewish Blogosphere," I started making introductions.  A few weeks later, here we are.  The first night of her Virtual Blog Tour in support of Three Fallen Women.  Wanna read a good review before you buy it?  Wanna support this awesome lady and buy it

Anyway, she turned the tables and is interviewing us about Hanukah.  Here are my answers to the Hanukah Meme (drumroll please.....)

1. Quick! You must turn a plate of latkes into an upscale gourmet delight (as if they aren't already?). What would you add to them to dress them up, flavor and/or garnish them?

I'm going to have to go with Green Chile from Durango Diner in Colorado.

2. What is the dumbest thing you've ever heard anyone say about Chanukah?

This is a classic story that happened about two weeks before I jumped into my conversion process.  I was helping my roommate Jonathan get a menorah for Chanukah.  But what does a Gentile know about buying a menorah?  Not much.

3. What's the best possible use for olive oil?

First I'll use it in homemade challah and then I'll put some in a bowl, add some hysop and dip the fresh challah into the hysop.  Yummilici

4. Settle it once and for all. Latkes or hammentaschen? Which to you prefer? What about pitting the winner of that contest against sufganiyot?

I'm going to say that Latkes trump Hammentaschen, but given my love of Israel and my sweet tooth.  Sufganiyot trump Latkes.

5. What's the best way to mix up a game of dreidel?

I'm going to say olive oil, a twister mat, strip poker rules and some candles.  That would be different, nu?

6. My novel, Three Fallen Women, shockingly enough, is about the lives of three women. Which three women would you like to have over this year for latkes and why?

Assuming this means I can time travel my guests in, I'm bringing Golda Meir, Leah, and Anita Diamant.  That would be a dinner, eh?  Anita is super nice to me over email, Leah could tell me the truth about our name (Yes, Leah the matriarch) and Golda.  Who can pass on dinner with Golda?

7. Other than Three Fallen Women (har har), what book do you think would make a great Chanukah gift this year? What book would you like to receive as a gift this year?

I'm going to go with Elaine Solloway's book, The Division Street Princess.

8. What bloggers didn't participate in Chanukah Blog Tour 5767 and you think should have?

I knocked on a lot of virtual doors already, but I hope I see this banner on Seraphic Secret, Soccer Dad, Jewschool, Jewlicious, Esther K, Israelity, Isrealli, and IsraellyCool.  If I didn't put you on this list and you aren't on board already (lots of you already are) then you need to email Amy and get on board, cause 36 is a lot of bloggers to find.

Glad you like it. For any other bloggers out there, tag it 3FW and Guth to help her track the program, okay?

Come over and play dreidel and have latkes tonight (I didn't mean that to sound as dirty as it actually did) and maybe Leah and I can give you Temporary Heeb status. (I just had a vision of my rabbi shaking his head at me and my crazy ideas. Yet again.)

Ha! Great menorah story! I love how they directed you to cranberry candles for the menorah. Awesome.

Oh Elaine, if we don't support all the local authors, who will?

Jessica, it was so shocking. I was much better prepared last Hanukah, that's for sure.
