In my grand master plan of "My suitcase has it's own toiletries" I forgot one little item. Sigh. I forgot deodorant. So here I am, at Blogher, sans Secret. I went to the front desk and they gave me... Sport Stick. A man's deodorant. While effective, I smell like man. I'm kind of very attracted to me right now.
In other news, I'm starting to meet great people. It is strange to be the unknown person in my work group. Everyone knows Steve Rubel. In San Jose (and around) everyone knows Phil Gomes. They've run into Rick. People know of my group and know it is a big deal that I'm in it, but it is like I come with no priors. A clean slate. Who is she that she is in that group? Then I get teased about the name of the group. It preceeded me people (and I don't really mind it so much.)
I also really wish my sister was here, because socially she would appreciate it so much more than me. Jewish Bloggers that I read can't come because it is on Shabbat. That is a whole blogging community that the BlogHer Doors are closed to. My sister, however, is a mommy blogger and all the mommy bloggers are here. I wish I'd at least made a t-shirt that said "Rayne of Terror's Sister" or "Henry's Aunt."
Here are a couple sites that I learned about today and made note of:
Share Your Story. An online community for families with a child in NICU from March of Dimes.
Minti is a new portal for parents. Based in Australia, the lead woman on the project is really cool and gave me a onesie and a t-shirt. I'm not just linking to her because she gave me stuff, but she is really cool and the project sounds great! She is lovely, so you should check her out.
I participated in a round table of sorts with Laura Scott, Melanie Morgan, Michelle Cali, Courtney Hollands, and Holly Bornstein. Oh and Sarah Gilbert--who I've definitely come across before and always wondered if she was the actress. She isn't, but it doesn't mean she doesn't rock.
After a day of techie techiness, I went to the poolside cocktail hour and then to an amazing dinner with some DC co-workers and some new faces. Dave Coustan from Earthlink was very fun to banter with and Michelle Paolillo from Shop Wiki didn't yell at the omnivores for eating meat. And I'm kind of an asshole for not getting cards for the other two guys at dinner. Josh and .... shit. I'll see you tomorrow and ask...
That probably means I should sleep, huh?
Glad you enjoyed meeting Rachel and thanks for the metion of Minti - sounds
like blogHer was great :)
Leah,
It was great meeting you as well.
